“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.”

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. Robert Louis Stevenson Read (1)

How often do you look at your “grades?” We are taught to judge ourselves/our successes/our days, on results. Most often, those results are “tangible.” There is a problem there… our souls are intangible. If we look at the quality of our life by putting a priority on things or checklists or what we can hold, we are missing the seeds we plant. If a gardener focused only on the fruit their trees produced, the roots would wither and die.

It IS important to look at our successes, our things, and be grateful. However, it is even more important to look to cultivate the soil, to plan for the future, to nourish the soul. If we would only look at each day before we go to bed and think “Did I do my best?” or “Did I help others today?” If we asked these questions rather than “Did I finish my checklist?” or “Did I finish that presentation?”, “Did I clock in/out?” If we asked questions like “Did I truly feel today?” or “Did I let my soul shine?” – How much richer would our soil be?

We should focus on enriching our lives by focusing on our intangible fires, our purpose rather than only on the results of that purpose. When we allow time and energy to ensure the ground is fertile, our hearts are happy, our minds are focused and our soul is energized – we will harvest amazing fruit for generations.

So by all means, reap the harvest, but put even more time into improving the soil/soul.
